Bad breath

As the old saying goes, “You are what you eat”…and nothing could be truer when it comes to your breath.

Certain foods, such as garlic and onions, contribute to breath odor. Once the food is absorbed into the bloodstream, it is transferred to the lungs, where it is expelled through breathing. Brushing, flossing and mouthwash will only mask the odor temporarily until your body and bloodstream eliminate the food.

Dieters may develop unpleasant breath from infrequent eating. Dehydration also causes breath odor, which is why it’s important to drink water throughout your day. Water encourages saliva production, which flushes out the odor-causing bacteria from your mouth.

Regular brushing and flossing along with dental check ups can help combat bad breath.

However, in some cases, bad breath may be evidence of a greater medical condition.
